The Inspiration Challenge

Yeah, yeah….I know…I hear you grumbling.  A challenge?  Aren’t there enough people dumping ice over their heads?  I’m not against the ALS ice water challenge at all.  I just hope all of these people are also donating to the cause, not just catching pneumonia to spread awareness.

Anyway…has anyone ever told you that you inspire them?  Yes, little ol’ you sitting in your fancy yoga pants that you don’t wear to yoga class…has anyone ever said to you publicly or privately that you have helped them get through a tough time, have eased their pain or brightened their day?

I have and it’s FREAKIN’ AWESOME!  I admit that one of my goals with this blog and with its sister social media page (hehum, I can’t use it’s name because it’s algorithm will prevent me from sharing this post) is to inspire people to see our collective “oneness,” love more and to be gentle with each other as we grow in this understanding and awareness.

But I’m talking about the inspiration that comes when you are just genuine, authentic YOU,  For example, I have a friend on “said social media outlet” that has an amazing outlook on life.  We were friends in grade school and honestly, I haven’t seen her since about 6th grade when she moved out to the “burbs” which meant she was too far for me to ride my bicycle to visit.  She is always cheerful, funny and laid back and she reminds me almost daily that sometimes I take things waaay to seriously.

I have another friend who was diagnosed with congestive heart failure when she was about 45.  Freakin’ scary diagnosis to be handed so young.  Now she runs 5k’s for charity working to restore her health and help underprivileged kids along the way.

Another friend of mine just decided to go back to college (as she sends her own first-born daughter off to school) to learn Radio Production even though she has a long-time killer podcast promoting heavy metal music.

I decided that I want these people to know that they inspire me!  I want them to know that their bravery and courage and awesomeness touch me every day and make me want to stay true to my own authenticity.

How many times have you read a blog post or a social media post and thought to yourself, “wow…that person is really cool?”  Do you ever stop to tell them or do you just this the “like” button?  TELL THEM YOU THINK THEY ARE COOL, THAT THEY ARE AWESOME AND THAT THEY INSPIRE YOU! All it’s going to cost you is the time spent clicking out a few words on your iphone.

So here’s the challenge.  Try to find someone every day for a week and tell them that they inspire you.  If none of your friends inspire you perhaps you should expand your social circle…just sayin’.  Not big on social media?  Write an email, send a card.

It is a basic human need to be seen and heard.  Everyone wants to leave this Earth knowing that somehow they have made a difference.  Go ahead, Inspire to Inspire!

Blessings,

Susan

  1. I’m SOOOO jazzed reading this post, Susan!!

    YOU ROCK!! 🙂 🙂

Thank you for sharing the stories of your friends, they are amazing people indeed.

I’m in. I’m in on the challenge – I’m doing it. Starting right now:

YOU inspire me. Your writings and your energy and the time you take to hang out and interact with me on social media. It lights me up. And whenever you hit ‘like’ on a post I smile big just as I do whenever I see that you have written a post. Because you are one of the strong, good, fun, spirited souls. You inspire me and I’m so grateful for it!

Blessings and cheers to paying it all forward, baby!

    xo
