Yesterday I pledged to use this platform as place to speak my truth and discuss topics which are near and dear to me. I realized that there are several topics regarding spirituality that have been percolating within me and it’s time to unplug the pot and pour several cups of contemplative coffee. I’m going to call it the “Let’s Talk About…” series. This is just you and me sitting in my sun room, hot coffee in hand, chatting about topics that we would never discuss at cocktail parties. I hope the topics inspire discussion and I even promise (and this is a big promise coming from a recovering perfectionist) not to delete any negative comments. I will approve any comment that doesn’t use profanity or take God’s name in vain.
My goal is not to convert or convince, but to offer, a ” new-agey” layman’s perspective on different religious/spiritual topics that I feel have been diluted or reduced in their sacredness because of either rote catechesis or blind repetition. Many cradle Catholics would call me a “smorgasbord” Catholic but I’m not offended. I came to love and appreciate my faith by plodding down a winding road of denominations. My extended family members’ list of religious affiliations have included the Pentecostal church, the Lutheran church and the Jehovah Witnesses. I was fully accepted into all of these religious communities and each experience impacted and enlightened my views on the topics I want to discuss.
That being said, I am always open to different and new interpretations of an old ritual or belief. I don’t profess to be an expert on any of the topics, but I will include expert testimony in my discussion (sorry, once a journalist, always a journalist). Simply speaking… there are many pathways to God and I’m no saint, so I will always be open to other options and opportunities that will enable my journey home to the Creator.
Just let me know if you want your coffee black or with cream and sugar because I might have to run to the grocery store if you want real cream!
See you tomorrow,
Susan
I look forward to your blog, I like new ideas and sharing my own. It sometimes gets lonely living alone.
