Restoring Civility Across the Political Divide with Karen Tibbals

A few weeks ago my email blew up with replies to a post in the “Nextdoor” app. Someone had their political yard sign stolen from their front lawn and they were LIVID! Who would have the nerve to trespass just to steal a yard sign? They had every right to support their candidate on their property. The disgruntled neighbor received a great deal of support and encouragement.

Comments where spewed about “those dang liberals” and that “the Dems have no respect for people’s property.” Then he shared that it was indeed a Biden sign that had been taken. 😳😳😳 The conversation came to an abrupt end.

If you’ve been avoiding your friends, neighbors and relatives because you just can’t have ONE MORE argument about politics…if you just want to understand why liberals and conservatives can’t find a middle ground, watch my interview with Karen Tibbals, researcher and author of “Persuade, Don’t Preach: Restoring Civility Across the Political Divide.”

In her new book she uses her study of ethical frameworks to give us a way to reframe our political dialogues. Once we understand what values drive our decisions, especially our political ones, we can have productive and respectful discussions about the candidates and their platforms.

I’m tired of the yelling and the finger pointing. I’m ready to learn a new way to communicate and I hope you are too.
